Feel like I got the rug pulled out from under me :(

LoG2 has to be one of the best games I've ever played with one of the worst end-game boss fights ever. I took my time, made wise choices, searched everything, leveled, crafted, etc... but nothing quite prepared me for the rooftop boss in the tower. I've tried now about 20+ times with so many different approaches/strategies, but nothing I do can do anything but scratch the boss. Up until that point, I felt very confident I could handle 99.9% of the games enemies, but that ending just came out of nowhere with no warning. Needless to say, I think I've given up on my current 45+ hour save and don't think I have it in me to start all over just to spend the whole game prepping for the last battle.

I know some of you will call me a whiny baby, but... I need to vent ;) I've played Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 to completion, but I think that end boss puts those games to shame, lol

I'm stepping down off my soap box now.

The boss is invincible until you kill most of the undead in the first wave. After you've killed all but one undead (IIRC, it might be all but two) the shield will go down and you can just backstab it to death. Even with poor damage output it should be easy to kill it before the second wave of monsters is summoned.
If for some reason you have trouble attacking it, you can make a large pile of rage potions and have a character with strength-based weapons quaff all of them at once. They stack with each other with no limit, so you can easily get +1000 strength. Then you'll only have to hit the boss a couple of times.

As long as the boss has his shield up - the huge blue sphere - he can't be hurt. There is no way you can break thru the boss' shield BUT you can cause him to drop it by either staying alive long enough (about the time the boss music needs to loop) or killing most of the monsters he summoned. Once the shield is down the boss can be damaged for a limited amount of time so make your attacks count until he calls for the next wave of monsters and raises his shield again.

Yah, I got that he's invincible until his shield goes down, but every time I got within melee distance, he just destroyed my crew and I didn't really max out a ranged character. I hadn't tried the rage potions technique yet... maybe maybe I'll give that one more shot... I have my main tank to where he's got the Bane in one hand and a shield in the other along with mostly the meteor armor, etc

Thanks for the suggestions

Hope you don't try to melee him head on. Try to approach him from the sides, then hit and back away again.

I got him in my first attempt. I'm not sure he even managed to hit me. I sidestepped when he would try to face me.

I think the only thing that did was make me feel even more inferior... thanks for the input! ;)

I finally managed to beat him by spamming the Rage and Protection potions and revives... I'm okay not being the master Grimrocker, I'm just glad I was able to finally feel like I finished the game... thanks for the Rage potion tip, @minmay

You're talking about
SpoilerShow
the dragon with a wizard riding it, right?
That's the regular end boss.
There's also a secret end boss/ending.

Yeah, I read about that, but... all good... I saw the credits... Now that I finished it once, I can cool off and work on a second play through next ;)

I hope that one gets fixed with the next patch; that's crazy.
