Help in Crystal Mines (can't seem to progress)

So I am clearly missing something; but I am at a loss as to what.
Crystal Mines map:
And Crystal Mines Core map:
I also dropped to the level below that; but there wasn't much I could do but pull a level to access the teleporter to be teleported back up.

That map warrants a lot more of an in depth exploration.

You might want to explore a bit more thorough at the northwestern pedestral in the Crystal Mine Core.

That door up there is locked. I am uncertain how to unlock it or where to locate the key!

Its a whlie since I was there but ...
Have you look for throwable pressureplates over the gaps?
Maybe cast some fireball or lighningbolt over the gaps to light the other sides

It was my best attempt at a spoiler free hint.
It meant that yes there was stuff to find; and not wasted effort looking, and...
There are secret buttons all over, that enable magic bridges; as well several uses for the rope, if you scrutinize the map.

Well, I found one button - but that just led to the secret chest.
Are the secret buttons on the stone wall? Because if they are, that's going to be a pain in the rump to spot on those crazy cavern mine walls (of stone)...
And as for the rope... This is why I wish the game came with a more functional manual... I have the rope - figured it'd come into use - but not sure how to use it? Is it equip in the hand and right click to use like a shovel?

Only rightclick, even in inventory, will do the trick if you stand facing a ledge

Also the shovel you can use out of the inventory.
