Couldn't find anything on healing broken limbs, how do I do it? In the game, that is

I have found that sometimes broken body parts do not heal when drinking a healing potion. Sometimes they do. I'm not sure if this in intentional or a bug, but with some rest/time, eventually the body part heals.

I found them to always heal when I drank a health potion.
Kept a health potion on my alchemist at all times, in case he sustained an injury that prevented him from making potions.
