Hi Guys and Happy New Year!!!

I wanted to ask if there are any issues (legal etc) if you use same name of an older classic 1990's dungeon for a remake LOG MOD?

I can see for example that we have Back to the Dungeon which is a remake of Dungeon Master which BTW is amazing (well done Germanny and all:)

Please Advise :)

Many Thanks

Answer: Probably, yes. There are some legal issues and most of those mods are almost certainly in violation of somebody's copyright somewhere. Practically speaking if you arn't making money nobody cares. Also many companies from the 90s have gone tits up bankrupt since then and likely nobody even knows who owns those old games anymore.

In short: Violationg somebodies intellectual property rights does not equal that person caring enough to sue you. And even if they do you just discontinue distributing the offending material. In all practical terms do whatever you want nobody except us in the community cares, and all we want to do is help you make stuff.

As Buzz says, it is normally a non-issue unless you plan to profit from your work/distribute it for a fee or POSSIBLY have a monetized youtube channel based on the work. Buzz also makes a good point that nearly every Developer from the 80's and 90's that focused on rpg's went belly up long ago. Many properties have no claim to legal ownership anymore. If on the offhand chance, someone, somewhere, were to take issue with the name, you could simply change it and continue distributing freely. Honestly, you could probably name your mod "Skyrim", and noone would care. Many games have a large modding community nowadays, some with THOUSANDS of mods available. So you can imagine there are a great many mods paying tribute, or created in the spirit of another game, book, or movie.

Thanks for this msyblade I will name it as I planned then and see what happens. To be honest I am hoping that with all our mods and remakes some big software house will sit up and see it and think about a full on remake :)
