Current characters portrait change?

Is it possible to change the portraits of one's current characters? I wished to make some portraits with pictures of a couple of friends, but was wondering if I'd have to start a game all over again to add them.

The only way to change an existing characters portrait is to use the console and the Champion:setPortrait(filename) command.
