Is there a way I can make my mod so that the player can't use the map? I want to give a good feeling of being lost and I think turning off the map for every player will be a good way to do that.

If this isn't possible I guess I'll just say in the description that it's strongly advised you turn off mapping for the best experience.

I really think that's pre-options only.

Okay thanks anyway, I'll just advise the player to not use mapping. =]

I wish I had originally played the game without the map, I just didn't realize how good the game was going to be or that I would play it multiple times. If I had known that, then I would have played without the map at first, and then used it on later playthroughs.
