level 8 - vault of the dismantler

hey there...

i'm on my first crawl through mount grimrock and now on level 8. i entered LV8 through the secret entrance from LV7, i'm standing in the room where you can see the spider that activates the lightning bolts, but cant get through the iron gate. how do i get into this room? do i have to clear the complete level to get the dismantler or can i get it in advance?

i already have the sword of nex, is the dismantler that good? i think i'll clear the level anyway to get the EXP, but would be nice to know if it's worth the plague!

great game, looking forward to see the level editor. i'm glad that i found that wrapper for OSX and dont have to wait for the native version.

You will get into the spider room eventually, but there is no way to get there directly from the entrance area. Once you are at the other side of the gate you can open it. You need to complete the whole level to get the Dismantler. It's better than the Sword of Nex, but not much. There is a lot of other cool stuff to be found on that level though even if you don't care for an only slightly better sword. Like multiple pieces of the armor of Valor (best heavy armor in the game) among other nice things IIRC. It's definitely worth clearing that dungeon level, possibly the level with the largest amount of quality equipment in the game (only level 10 may be better/equal).
