Experience / potions / ammo etc or I just delay the game ?

You get more challenge.

Yeah it's just there for people who want the game to be harder.

Would be nice to have sexy bonuses for hard mode to be honest! Like more experience or hidden stuff.

More experience would have been nice for hard, but alas no.

I would have liked enough combat to get 2-3 more levels to be honest.

On my hard play through I used the console to give each of my characters 30 bonus skill points, it allows you to try some different builds out.
