Black screen on start of a game

My screen in the begining is just black with a bunch of flames which im guessing are supposed to be torchs, is there something wrong with my game?

I meant in the start of a new game its just black and flames

You could try resetting your driver settings to default values in display driver's control panel. Also try downloading the latest driver. This has fixed this issue for others.

Make sure anti-aliasing is not forced in your graphic settings for your card.

I have a similar problem, and I don't have anti-aliasing forced.
My problem is that the game just wigs out and flashes lots of polygons at the main screen, and then goes black before freezing.
It was working fine before the patch came along. What can I do to fix this?

@OP make sure all things like Anti Aliasing and Anistropic Filtering is not being forced in your video drivers. Fixed it for me. CCC was also incorrectly reporting AA/AF as disabled when it was not, so you might want to check it yet again.
Khaos, try updating gpu drivers? Try grimrock settings?
