Download help

Post by ianB »

I realise how late I am to this but I only yesterday discovered this great looking game. I went today to buy/download it but all I can get is the countdown, everything but Forum redirects me to countdown :( Even if this is a countdown to a new game I'd love to try the old one first, is there anywhere I can currently get it? (prefer the non-Steam version)

Many thanks

You can either wait until the countdown is over (i'm absolutely sure LoG 1 will then be sold here again) or by from GOG; in that case make sure to patch the game to the latest version).

Now if aditional content is something you like to have i advice to go with the steam version because then you have easy access to hundreds of custom dungeons.

Thanks Dr, I guess I will wait and get it here tomorrow.
I was asking for the non-steam version because a couple of years back I loaded a game which installed Steam (I think it was Civ5) and I had all sorts of problems with steam, mainly that everytime I logged-on to the computer it was in the middle of a huge download (I never knew if it was the same download repeating or different ones), or it was in an almost endless upgrade etc. I just got tired of it and uninstalled along with Civ and never bought a steam game since. Maybe I will give it another chance now.

Steam is pretty good nowadays. However, It will automatically download all game updates as soon as they are available by default, but you can change that in the settings.

What used to happen is that, if the developers bundled the files with their games in archives, (which nearly all do), then a simple patch to one file in that bundle would require that whole bundle to be redownloaded. Steam is now more intelligent and just downloads the new part and patches correctly.

If you do go the Steam route, you won't miss any game updates (no manual patching) and you get the Steam Workshop (very easy to install dozens of great dungeons). For you, if you simply disable Steam from launching with Windows and to turn off Automatic Updates that will hopefully give you a better experience than before. :)

This is the first place I'd go to get it [other than direct from the developer] : http://www.gog.com/game/legend_of_grimrock
