Grimrock and Windows 8 Release Preview Problem

Post by Big Swifty »

Grimrock will not run on my machine just updated to Windows 8 Release Preview. I get the error related to the
"d3dx9_43.dll is NOT a valid windows image" but deleting that, reinstalling DX9 and the reinstalling game doesn't fix things. And dxdiag shows all to be correct and running properly. The game ran fine on the Windows 8 consumer preview. Just letting you know for future reference but any ideas on how to fix would be appreciated.

Hi Swifty, what is the problem after the reinstall of DX? After deleting the d3dx9_43.dll in the grimrock directory the error: "d3dx9_43.dll is NOT a valid windows image" should not arise anymore. Was this dll really removed ? (Try to search your system for instances of this file ). cheers

Edit: now I think I got it. You reinstalled your game, therefore the faulty dll was installed again in the grimrock directory, delete or rename this file manually, after that the game should work instantly, I hope :) (assuming it is not a Windows 8 Release Preview quirk)

All is fixed and I am adventuring once again. Just deleted the .dll from the Grimrock directory and the game loaded fine!

Thanks for the help and the great game.
