Mac user with worries?
Mac user with worries?
I gave in, bought the Windows game, and play with Wine. I love it!!
But I do have my worries, if all Mac users buy the Windows version and play anyway, with Wine, Bootcamp or whatever, it will be very flawed purchase statistics when a Mac version is released. With the delayed Mac version you will get an artificially deflated demand from Mac gamers since many already bought the game. Albeit not for their first choice platform.
Everyone I know that plays LoG do so in Wine on a Mac. Admittedly I am a developer, and my friends tend to be tech savvy. Is there any real stats for how many non-Windows users that play the game anyway?

Re: Mac user with worries?
I'm pretty sure there's a vast potential mac userbase who are not going to bother figuring out wine. So I doubt you have much to worry about there.

Re: Mac user with worries?
Nah, I think they expected it to work like this. Those of us that have been hyped since forever ago (literally) were going to instantly preorder it anyways. We know a Mac version is coming eventually, so why not support them now, so they have the funds to port it later ^^.
I feel this might go the way of Terraria. Someone released a wrapper, and everyone just used that. The Porting Team released a wrapper for this, and I feel if a Mac user wants the game bad enough they won't hesitate to simply use the wrapper. (since it's really easy to set up)

Re: Mac user with worries?
You needn't worry, I think.
LOG via the Mac App Store would be a huge success for AH. And if AH takes the multi-pronged release route, offering it directly would be on the table too.
Personally, I learned about LOG from Touch Arcade when they showed the iOS version video. I thought "Holy shit, that's Dungeon Master!" and subsequently visited the LOG Blog daily from then on. If AH pushes the impending Mac version release into the right online media channels, the Mac audience will grow considerably and overnight.

I also play LoG via Wine on a Mac. But if there is a Mac-Version available in the future, i will buy it one more time. Im am very interested in the editor an i think that could be a little bit difficult under wine.

Good too know I am worrying too much
.
I too will buy a Mac version when it arrives. Been buying allot of old games being re-releases on Mac App Store. Some for support, and most to relive their joys

Re: Mac user with worries?
As a note, The Humble Store (direct AH purchase) and Steam will give you the Mac version for free if you bought it already. I dunno how GOG works, so I can't comment.
Re: Mac user with worries?
I may well get the Mac version free. I'll buy it anyway. My life is improved when devs support Mac directly.

+1 on that, been buying many second copies for games when they arrive on Mac.seebs wrote:I may well get the Mac version free. I'll buy it anyway. My life is improved when devs support Mac directly.

Yeah. I think we've long since reached the point where people are not buying games because that's the only way to get them, but because it's the only way to get more games in the future.PeyloW wrote:+1 on that, been buying many second copies for games when they arrive on Mac.seebs wrote:I may well get the Mac version free.
