You mentioned lots of things here. Not sure exactly what you're asking to be honest?

If the question is just about writer's block, then yes, everyone gets it and it's a normal part of the creative process. Take a break, do something else, go for a walk. When you come back to it, you'll have fresh ideas.

As for the brain questions, I've no idea, I've not looked at that stuff yet. As for the spoilers, yeah, It kinda ruins the surprise of your mod and you might want to delete that text or hide it (there is a spoiler tag you can use around blocks of text).

yeah maybe I should delete it. I guess what I was trying to do was bounce ideas off people on how to make a boss fight with a skeleton commander exciting when the skeleton commander does not have his summon undead or his ice spikes and all he can do is walk towards the party and attack them...

I hope I did not ruin my mod for people. 17 views, I may have spoiled it for 17 people....(keep in mind, anyone who read it, those spoilers were only a small part of the mod, theres a lot more stuff than just that...).the whole point of making this mod was for other people to play it. I could play it myself but then whats the point of spending 300 hours making a dungeon your gonna play through in 2 hours because you know all the solutions to the puzzles?

I didn't get the chance to see this in time, so now I'm really curious. In about 20 minutes, the best thing I could come up with is a glorified square dance with pressure plate and archer shenanigans. If your idea is better than that, I don't even think it's a big deal to reveal it. Hype through minor spoilers~

well a minor spoiler is that my mod has its maps and puzzles and enemies all customized
SpoilerShow
based on horror movie cliches, with lots of references to horror movies and horror movie tropes... with a villain played by a skeleton commander that appears many times throughout the mod.
but my dilemma is how do I make each encounter fresh and exciting instead of just the same enemy rehashed over and over again?

and then Iwent on a tangent about monster brains because I don't like some of the behaviors the skeleton commander exhibits and want to change them. but perhaps this is really a flaw in the the overall game design, I've seen others criticize the combat system.
and outside of 3d modeling a whole new set of meshes and building a monster from scratch...the skeleton commander is the only enemy in grimrock that has that vibe, to fit the "slasher villain" role
maybe this is why some folks like isaac suggested that monsters should only be used as obstacles toward the next puzzle instead of focusing the dungeon around them.

I think i'm just gonna go forward with what i've been doing. when I feel it's done enough to share, i'll let you guys see it and you can judge for yourselves whether it's good or not...

If you're worried about redundancy, look at what my slapdash suggestion involves and what most mods and the vanilla game to a large degree don't even try to incorporate. Traditionally, encounters consist of two parts: Enemy and map layout. If you don't feel like mixing enemies together anymore, try to tweak the second part more generously. If that's not enough either, take that one bold step forward and add that third layer of the map itself taking part in the encounter if that makes any sense. There are a ton of tricky things you can do outside of encounters. Surely you can incorporate them into meaningful encounters as well~

Since I would rather not talk about specifics right now for the sake of sustaining the suspense, I'll just point at Mystrock for a couple of rather resourceful ways of making combat not only revolve around the enemy or enemies in question.

yes well, thanks for the advice.
I guess this is the kind of thing I have to figure out on my own lol.
I mean Stephen King doesn't ask people if killer clown balloons filled with blood are scary enough, he just writes it...

If you need help with something but you're concerned about spoilers, simply PM someone asking for help. I've had a few folks PM me, for example, and I've looked at entire dungeon files in an effort to assist/troubleshoot issues. I'd be happy to look some stuff over with you from time to time. Others I'm sure would be willing to do the same.

So yeah, PM spoiler help :geek:
